needs only a spark to ignite it. The Jews are different. Their law, in particular, is a barrier that separates them from others and arouses suspicion and resentment. Under the new covenant this ‘dividing wall of hostility … the law with its commandments and regulations’ is done away with by the cross, and believing Jews and Gentiles are constituted one new people in Christ (Eph. 2:11–22). Outside of this, attempts to solve the problem of the conflict between Jew and Gentile continue, with mixed results.
